Pareidolia to Personhood
The term "pareidolia" refers to the tendency to perceive a specific, often meaningful image in random or ambiguous visual patterns. Ever since I was a little girl, I could find a face in just about anything I looked at. Now as an artist, I am drawn to faces, so when I learned how to sew and started playing with fabrics, it was only natural that faces came about.
Creating Faces
The first jacket I made, I had no intentions of creating a face; Instead I was practicing patchwork. It was not long before a face appeared within the denim scraps. Forgetting all about the patch work, I followed my intuition and created a face. This led me to sew 10 more, one of a kind, each time having no plan of action, rather letting the jacket and fabric guide me.
Every Jacket Has a Story
Again, the idea of Pareidolia is to give meaning to something that is not obvious to the naked eye. Peoples stories are not something understood to the naked eye. For this reason I have included stories for each jacket, an element that allows viewers to build a connection to the piece, an opportunity to give it meaning.is a brand where sustainable fashion, art, and story telling meet to create one of one pieces.
