Exquisite beaded gemstone jewelry inspired by ancient cultures, the souqs and bazaars of the Middle East, and mid-Twentieth Century design.
ABOUT THE BRAND
Seraglio Designs jewelry is a product of the hand and creative vision of Australian designer Dr. Mandy Mottram, whose background in Middle Eastern archaeology has carved the path for her creative journey. A self-confessed philomath, inspiration for Mandy’s jewelry comes from numerous sources, including both ancient and more recent Middle Eastern material culture, Georgian and Regency period furniture and ceramics, oriental rugs, the Native American jewelry of the US Southwest, mid-20th century Danish design and the jewelry of set-designer,Tony Duquette, to name just a few. She also brings humor to bear in the creation of pieces inspired by television shows such as The Flintstones and the British science fiction cult classic, Blake’s 7.
Above all, she is inspired by the materials – the color and shape of a bead, the geological origins of the rock or mineral from which it is made – as well as the manual skills involved in production and any underlying cultural imperatives inherent in vintage or repurposed elements. Her creative emphasis is on the beauty of natural materials and respect for the Earth which created them. Each piece is designed with careful consideration of both her own and the viewer's emotional response to the origins and the history of the components and to the overall product. As a result of this process and, owing to the handcrafted nature of the product, no two pieces are identical.
Seraglio Designs' mission is to create jewelry that is beautiful to behold, comfortable to wear, affordable, and which honors and respects the materials from which it is made.
