This elegant silk ankle-length cheongsam qipao depicts details from HKMoA\u2019s priceless oil on canvas painting \u201cPatchwork\u201d by world-revered Chinese contemporary artist Wu Guanzhong. Adorned with Sparkle signature lambskin Mandarin collar and illusion mesh for extra finesse.<\/p>\n
Wu Guanzhong first started painting with oil and then moved on to ink, searching for a way to fuse Eastern and Western art. His works bring together the aesthetics of traditional Chinese ink and modern Western art, pioneering the unique “Wu studio style”.<\/p>\n
Wu had an enduring connection with Hong Kong. He visited Hong Kong on many occasions, such as hosting art exhibitions and attending academic seminars and talks by invitation. Wu highly rated Hong Kong’s cultural environment, to him, Hong Kong was a confluence where he could “see both the East and the West at the same time”. Wu Guanzhong once said, \u201cWhat is painted in Patchwork is the clothes worn by the poor, with the patches in red, green and so on. The (image) of clothing is done away with, leaving behind the (impression of) variegated patches.\u201d<\/p>\n
